What is a registered Nutritional Therapist?

To be registered as a Nutritional Therapist with the British Association for Nutrition & Lifestyle Medicine BANT) you need to have at least a degree level qualification in an approved Nutritional programme. The courses they approve ensure that their members have not only the academic understanding of the subject but all have had the clinical experience as well.

As BANT members we are also regulated by the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

To keep our registration, we need to commit to at least 30 hours CPD a year and have all the appropriate insurances in place. We also have to adhere to a code of practice.

‘Nutritionist’ is not a protected title like other professions so this means that some people can call themselves a nutritionist after a few hours training.

It is important when looking for a Nutritional Therapist to look at the registrations, professional memberships, qualifications and insurances of the person you are thinking of working with. Also, many Nutritional Therapists have a specialism or a particular area of interest.

By choosing a registered Nutritional Therapist you can feel safe in the knowledge that this person has the appropriate skills, knowledge, training and insurance to be able to carry out the work that they do.

I am qualified to Post graduate diploma level in Nutritional science and practise. As part of this qualification I had to pass both clinical and academic aspects of the course. I studied for almost 3 years Full time to gain this qualification and supported many clients in a clinic setting.

I have put my finial MSc dissertation on hold to build my own clinic.

Most Nutritional Therapists offer a free discussion before any appointments are made. If you would like to discuss your health and lifestyle needs and see if Nutritional Therapy is for you please either email me at Lesley.nourishnt@gmail.com or complete the contact page on my website https://www.nourish-nt.com/contact-1 to arrange for me to call you.
