Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen

No, The Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen isn’t a movie scene from a western!

The Environmental Working Group has just published the updated versions of Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen. They update their lists annually and soon we should be getting the UK version.

These lists highlight the crops that contain the highest and lowest levels of pesticides in them after conventional farming and then a good wash!

If you are wondering why we should be taking note of these, the answer is simple. If these pesticides are not being removed by washing then there is a chance that you are going to be ingesting them adding to your toxic load. Pesticides can cause a wide range of health problems.

At menopause it can disrupt our hormones further leading - disrupted hormones=more menopause symptoms. It can also lead to problems with our thyroid leading to weight gain and the already increased changes of type 2 diabetes is increased further.

It can be expensive to eat organic foods from the supermarket. Local farmers markets often have fruits and veggies that have been organically farmed but they don’t have the organic certification due to the cost.

Would you use the dirty dozen and the clean fifteen lists to inform your shopping?
