9 things I am encouraging my clients to do daily to improve their energy
Are you feeling the pressured to start some new fad diet or throwing every resource you have into making drastic changes this January?
If you are a post menopause woman who is struggling with her energy the best thing you can do is get the basics back in place. You will be amazing at how energised you can feel by making some simple changes to your daily habits.
These are the exact same habits I am encouraging all my clients to make sure that they are doing throughout January - especially if December got a bit wild on the eating and drinking front.
9 daily habits for improving your energy as suggested by a registered nutritionist:
move your body
get out in nature
track your energy levels
take regular breaks
keep hydrated
get your food basics in place
prioritise your sleep
try something new (food/recipe)
take up a new hobby
Let’s dig a bit deeper into each of these.
Move Your Body: Regular exercise increases blood flow, releases endorphins and boosts energy levels by enhancing oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues and organs. Also, when your body is flooded with endorphins your body can’t make stress hormones. Stress hormones are one of the biggest causes of low energy because they cause such a disruption to all other systems in your body.
Get Out in Nature: Spending time in nature provides fresh air, natural light and a break from technology, which can reduce stress and fatigue while restoring mental focus and promoting overall well-being.
Track Your Energy Levels: By monitoring your energy patterns, you can identify factors that influence your energy levels and make informed decisions about managing your activities and lifestyle to optimize your energy. Don’t know where to start to track your energy? Download my free tracking tool HERE.
Take Regular Breaks: Taking short breaks allows you to recharge mentally and physically, preventing burnout and increasing productivity when you return to tasks.
Keep Hydrated: Proper hydration maintains optimal bodily functions, aids digestion, regulates body temperature and helps transport nutrients and oxygen, all of which contribute to sustained energy.
Get Your Food Basics in Place: Eating a balanced diet rich in whole foods provides the necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that fuel your body and keep energy levels stable throughout the day. Don’t know what your food basics should be? Find out more HERE.
Prioritise Your Sleep: Quality sleep is essential for energy restoration, cognitive functioning, and overall vitality. It allows the body to repair and rejuvenate, ensuring you wake up refreshed. Many of us forget that our sleep routine begins as soon as you get up. Creating good habits around sleep are essential to making sure you get a refreshing night’s sleep.
Try Something New (Food/Recipe): Exploring new foods and recipes introduces variety and excitement to your meals, which can enhance enjoyment and motivation to nourish your body properly, ultimately increasing energy levels.
Take Up a New Hobby: Engaging in a new hobby not only provides a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment but also stimulates mental and physical activity, leading to increased energy and a positive mood.
Depending on where you are on your journey to reclaiming your energy depends on how many of these habits I would encourage you to start with.
If you just feel a bit sluggish after all the festivities and feel confident and good to get started, I would say jump in there and do all 9. Especially if some of these habits you have established in the past.
If you are feeling really fatigued and the thought of doing anything is overwhelming then I would say start with the one thing that you know you can achieve easily - this might be the keeping hydrated or getting out in nature (and don’t worry I am not talking about a 10 mile hike. 10-15 minutes in your local park would be a fabulous start)
