Menopause: Second Spring

Are you ready to embrace your Second Spring ?

The concept of “Second Spring” refers to a positive and empowering view of menopause. It’s a term that originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where menopause is seen not as an end but as a new beginning, a time of renewal and personal growth.

In TCM, it’s believed that a woman’s life follows cycles of seven years. Between the ages of 42 and 48, a woman prepares for menopause, and then during 49-55, she experiences her “Second Spring.” This phase is seen as an opportunity for rebirth, where wisdom becomes predominant, and there’s a shift from focusing on fertility and reproduction to conserving energy and nourishing oneself.

The “Second Spring” is about embracing the changes that come with menopause and viewing them as a chance to focus on self-care, personal development, and finding new joy in life. It’s a time to reassess what’s important, let go of what no longer serves you, and reclaim vitality.

This perspective encourages women to treat themselves with kindness and compassion, using this transition as a catalyst to become the person they’ve always wanted to be. It’s about finding balance and embracing the changes with a positive mindset.

We don’t tend to have this positive attitude to menopause in the UK or ageing come to that but perhaps embracing it could be transformative. After all it’s a chance to take stock, look at your life so far and re-evaluate. The number of amazing women I know who have had pivotal life changes at this stage in their lives is amazing and encouraging to see. They are leading the way and giving us hope that things can be different - that we can step into our true selves at menopause.

Perhaps it is time to rebel against what is expected in the UK. That head down and just get on as before. Just take your HRT and carry on as if nothing is happening. Oh, and don’t forget to hang onto youth for dear life!

Are you ready to rebel and do menopause differently ?

Your body is going through enormous shifts and rather than trying to ignore this change in life phase, what if you could use this time of adjustment? To prioritise your self-care, to revisit your dreams of what you want your life to look like, to look after your health and to do things differently.

Second Spring” theory is a beautiful way to reframe menopause as a period of transformation and new possibilities.

Are you ready to embrace your “Second Spring” ?

I know I am .. I am using this time to delve deeper into cyclical living, nourishing my body in the exact way it needs and to find more joy in my everyday life. I have already done the big leap of a completely new career BUT I am feeling the need to reassess this against what I have learnt though my menopause phase. Time to revisit those hopes and dreams ✨
